lions and tigers and bears…oh my!
I’ve never explored the woods behind my parents’ house so I went for a walk with my mom and dog today to see the wilderness of Southampton, MA. Rosie, my dog, was off her leash and having a gay old time sniffing around a large log when I saw her jump back, startled. Suddenly the log stood up and I could hear my mother’s fading yells behind me “DAVE! It’s a BEAR!” as she ran away! “You’re not supposed to run from a bear!” I yelled back at her, rather calmly. I stood about 150 feet away from the bear, who could really care less about us, and watched my mother scramble up a hill still shouting, “Seriously! It’s a bear!”. I called Rosie over, picked her up and walked up the hill to join my mom. We wandered out of the woods onto someone’s property and took the long way back home. “Maybe we shouldn’t walk back there anymore,” my mother said smiling. Hey, at least I know what’s in the woods behind my parents’ house now.
